Florida Supreme Court Hears Oral Arguments on Asbestos & Silica Act

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Supreme Court, having recently heard oral arguments pertaining to the constitutionality of the state's Asbestos and Silica Compensation Fairness Act, is expected to issue a decision that could affect thousands of asbestos claims, sources tell HarrisMartin. American Optical Corp., et al. v. Williams, et al., No. SC08-1617; American Optical Corp., et al., v. Spiewak, et al., No. SC08-1616 (Fla. Sup. Ct.).

According to the high court's online docket, oral arguments were held on Feb. 10 to address conflicting opinions from lower appellate court on whether retroactive application of the state's medical criteria act is proper.
