Separate Federal Opioid Docket Sought for Lawsuits Filed on Behalf of Opioid-Dependent Infants

Counsel representing the families of infants born addicted to opioids have asked the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to create a separate coordinated docket for pending and future class actions brought against makers of the drugs.

A federal panel has established a coordinated docket for 53 lawsuits involving polypropylene hernia mesh products manufactured by C.R. Bard Inc. and subsidiary Davol Inc., finding the cases involve common questions of fact.

JPML Creates MDL Docket for Zostavax Shingles Vaccine Lawsuits

The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has granted Merck & Co. Inc.’s request to create a federal docket for lawsuits accusing it of failing to warn that its Zostavax vaccine, marketed for the prevention of shingles, caused the same condition in some who received the shot.

Plaintiffs Seek MDL Docket for Linear Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agent Cases

Plaintiffs asserting claims relating to the retention of toxic gadolinium in their organs, bones, and tissues have filed a petition seeking the creation of a multidistrict litigation docket, arguing that the number of Linear Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agent cases “will likely be in the hundreds or more due to the widespread use of Linear GBCAs in MRI and MRA procedures.”

Texas High Court Appoints Judge Peeples to Oversee MDL Docket for Opioid Lawsuits

The Texas Supreme Court has appointed Judge David Peeples of the Bexar County District Court to oversee a multidistrict litigation docket for lawsuits filed by 18 Texas counties alleging they were damaged by the improper marketing and distribution of prescription opioids.

Plaintiffs Seek MDL Docket for Cases Involving Zimmer M/L Taper and Kinectiv Stems with VerSys Heads

Three plaintiffs are seeking creation of a federal MDL docket for all cases arising out of the Zimmer M/L Taper Hip Prosthesis and Zimmer M/L Taper Hip Prosthesis with Kinectiv Technology when paired with the Zimmer VerSys Hip System Femoral Head, arguing that the 22 existing cases involve the same defendants based upon the same legal theories and facts.
