Munich Re Fires Back in Battle Over $4.25 Million Settlement

LOS ANGELES - Munich Reinsurance America Inc. has flatly denied allegations that it owes a self-insured retention pool $4.25 million for the settlement of claims brought against a California city. California Joint Powers Insurance Authority v. Munich Reinsurance America Inc., No. 08-00956 (C.D. Calif.).

In its May 30 brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Munich Re also asserted that any settlement payments made by the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority (CJPIA) were ex gratia and fell outside the scope of the underlying coverage.
