HARTFORD, Conn. - In a dispute involving reinsurance coverage for a professional liability insurance program, Williams Underwriting Group is urging a Connecticut federal judge to dismiss the reinsurer's third-party complaint. Universal Reinsurance Company Ltd. v. Williams Underwriting Group, No. 3:06-CV-158 (D. Conn.).

In a June 2 motion to dismiss, Williams asserts that it never entered into an express or implied contract with the reinsurer, Universal Reinsurance Co.

In 2003, Universal issued a quota share reinsurance agreement to Arrowood's predecessor, The Fire and Casualty Insurance Company of Connecticut. The agreement reinsured Fire and Casualty's participation in an insurance program run by …
