$130 Million Awarded to Five Asbestos Plaintiffs in Texas

ORANGE, Texas - Five plaintiffs from Alabama have been awarded $130 million in an asbestos case in Orange County, Texas. Bell v. Dresser Industries, No. A-920961SC(19) (Texas Dist. Ct., Orange Cty.).
The verdict was announced Wednesday evening by jurors assembled before Texas District Court Judge Patrick Clark, according to sources.
Sources said that four of the plaintiffs had been diagnosed with cancer - two with lung cancer, another with colon cancer. Two of the plaintiffs later died from their illnesses. All five, who worked at the U.S. Pipe plant in Birmingham, Ala., had been diagnosed with asbestosis as a result …
