Orthopedic Surgery Practice Says COVID-19 Losses Covered Under National Fire Policy

NEW YORK — A New York orthopedic surgery practice has sued National Fire Insurance Company of Hartford, seeking coverage for losses it sustained after it was forced to temporarily close its offices due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related civil authority orders.
In an Aug. 4 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Hudson Valley Bone and Joint Surgeons LLP says it suffered “direct physical loss of” its two locations, triggering coverage under its policy. The complaint also names National Fire’s parent company, CNA Financial Corp., as a defendant.
