N.Y. Court Retains Jurisdiction over Defendant in Asbestos Cosmetic Talc Case

NEW YORK –– A New York trial court has retained jurisdiction over a company named in an asbestos cosmetic talcum powder case for its role as a distributor of talc, concluding that specific jurisdiction was present in that the company shipped into New York talc on a “continuous basis.”

In the Nov. 7 order, the New York Supreme Court for New York County found that the plaintiffs had made a “sufficient” showing that long-arm jurisdiction should be exercised over the company.
