U.S. Steel Seeks Summary Judgment in Benzene Case on Statute of Limitations Grounds

BALTIMORE –– U.S. Steel has filed a motion to dismiss a benzene complaint, contending that the claims are time barred since they were filed six years after the causes of action accrued.

In the Oct. 22 brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, U.S. Steel also maintained that it was not liable for any conduct alleged in the plaintiffs’ complaint.

Plaintiff James Coppage asserted the underlying claims, contending that he was exposed to benzene-containing products while working for approximately 50 years as a newspaper pressman in Baltimore. As a result of the exposure, …
