N.H. Federal Reinsurance Action Dismissed in Deference to Parallel N.J. Case

CONCORD, N.H. — A New Hampshire federal judge has dismissed a $20 million reinsurance action filed by United States Fire Insurance Co. and North River Insurance Co. against several insurers, in deference to a parallel action pending in New Jersey state court.

In an Oct. 24 order, Judge Landya McCafferty of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire explained that the case must be dismissed pursuant to the prior-pending action doctrine, because adjudication of the action would be “duplicative and unnecessary.”
