Fla. Woman Says Contaminated Zantac Caused Breast Cancer

MIAMI — A Florida woman has sued Sanofi-Aventis in federal court, alleging her long-term ingestion of the heartburn drug Zantac (ranitidine) caused her breast cancer because it was contaminated with a probable human carcinogen.

In a Sept. 17 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Nancy Lopez Flores says she took Zantac for more than 20 years without realizing that the drug was “laden” with N- Nitrososdimethylamine (NDMA), which “wreaked havoc in her body and led her to cancer.”
