N.Y. Man Awarded $542,645 in Damages at Conclusion of Pradaxa Trial

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut state court jury has awarded $542,645 in compensatory damages to a New York man who suffered gastrointestinal bleeding after taking Boehringer Ingelheim’s Pradaxa to treat his atrial fibrillation.

In a May 15 verdict, the Hartford Superior Court jury determined that Boehringer Ingelheim breached its duty to adequately warn plaintiff Eugene Roberto’s prescribing doctor of the risks posed by the blood thinner.

The jury further found that had the doctor been provided with sufficient warnings and instructions, he would not have prescribed the drug, or would have altered his discussion with Roberto regarding the drug’s …
