HARRISON, Ark. - Smith & Nephew has settled a lawsuit involving its Synergy Stem artificial hip, following an Arkansas federal judge’s ruling that questions of fact exist as to whether the device had a manufacturing and/or compositional defect at the time it was implanted.

According to a March 21 dismissal order issued by Judge Timothy Brooks of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas, the parties entered into a settlement agreement on Feb. 11, which was approved by a federal bankruptcy court on March 19.
