Reinsurer to Appeal Payment of $1 Million to Odyssey Re in Cal-Regent Case

SAN DIEGO — A former reinsurer of State National Insurance Co. is appealing a California federal judge’s order directing payment of $958,017.66 to Odyssey Reinsurance Co. in a dispute in which the reinsurer seeks payment of a $3.2 million judgment from the former owners of Cal-Regent Services Corp.

Knight Insurance Co. filed its notice of appeal on March 21, following a March 14 determination by Judge Barry T. Moskowitz of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California that Odyssey Re is entitled to the funds because they are assets of Cal-Regent’s successor, Pacific Brokers Insurance Services.
