Vascular Closure Device Action Against Abbott Dismissed for Lack of Jurisdiction

SAN DIEGO — A California federal judge has dismissed a vascular closure device action, ruling that personal jurisdiction is lacking because the plaintiff failed to show a causal nexus between Abbott Laboratories’ activities in the forum and her injuries.

In a Feb. 21 order, Judge Michael Anello of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California found the Abbott defendants never owned, manufactured or sold the device that allegedly caused the plaintiff’s injuries and therefore she failed to establish that her claims arise from, or relate to, Abbott’s contacts with the forum.
