BALTIMORE — A Maryland appellate court has upheld an award of summary judgment to Abbott Laboratories in a Humira brain damage case, ruling that the plaintiff’s failure-to-warn claims were not backed by adequate evidence of general and specific causation.

In a July 19 opinion, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals affirmed the trial court’s exclusion of the plaintiff’s expert witnesses, whose opinions she presented to support her allegation that that Abbott failed to adequately warn of the risk of prescribing the drug to HIV positive patients.
