BALTIMORE — A couple is urging a Maryland federal judge to amend their complaint involving a BHR hip implant component to add Smith & Nephew plc as a defendant, arguing the United Kingdom-based holding company is an indispensable party.

In a May 25 reply filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, plaintiffs further maintain that even though their case was made part of the BHR multidistrict litigation, they are not prohibited from bringing claims against additional defendants.
