Louisiana Appellate Court Affirms $7 Million Judgment, Rejects Ingersoll-Rand’s Challenges to Bench Trial Judgment

LAKE CHARLES, La. –– A Louisiana appellate court has affirmed a $7 million award issued at the conclusion of a bench trial in an asbestos case, in part finding that the trial court did not err in allocating fault to defendant Ingersoll-Rand.
In the Aug. 2 opinion, the Louisiana 3rd District Court of Appeal also opined that an award of $750,000 to each of the decedent’s four adult children, while “on the high side,” was not an abuse of discretion.
The plaintiffs asserted the claims on behalf of Myra Williams, whose malignant mesothelioma was caused by exposure to asbestos fibers …
