N.Y. Judge Retains Jurisdiction Over Reinsurance Dispute Between R&Q, Allianz

NEW YORK — A New York judge has denied Allianz Insurance Co.’s motion to dismiss on forum non conveniens grounds a lawsuit in which R&Q Reinsurance Co. seeks rescission of reinsurance certificates issued to Allianz, ruling that Allianz has not shown that New York is an inconvenient forum.
In a July 17 order, Judge Saliann Scarpullo of the New York County Supreme Court rejected Allianz’ argument that the case belongs in California, finding the facts show a substantial nexus between New York and the underlying reinsurance transactions.
