CAMDEN, N.J. — A Superstorm Sandy coverage action is time-barred under the one-year statute of limitations that applies to claims seeking Standard Flood Insurance Policy benefits, a New Jersey federal judge has ruled, holding that the insurer’s rejection of the proof of loss triggered the limitations period.

On Feb. 2, Judge Robert B. Kugler of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey said the insurer’s rejection letter constituted a written denial of the policyholder’s claim.
