Canal Insurance to Conduct Limited Discovery as to Personal Jurisdiction in Fraud Case

ATLANTA — A Georgia federal judge has granted Canal Insurance Co.’s motion for leave to conduct limited discovery as to whether the court has personal jurisdiction over two out-of-state individual defendants who allegedly received fraudulent transfers from Golden Isles Reinsurance Company Ltd.

In an Oct. 21 order, Judge Lee Martin May of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia said he will allow Canal to conduct one-hour depositions of defendants Lou Ellen S. Reavis and Lou Crosby. As such, the judge denied without prejudice the defendants’ motions to dismiss Canal’s claims for lack of jurisdiction.
