N.Y. Federal Judge Appoints Umpire to Oversee National Union’s Dispute With Insured

NEW YORK — A New York federal judge has appointed an umpire to oversee an arbitration between National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh and its insured, finding the insured’s failure to nominate qualified candidates caused an impasse in the arbitration process.

On Oct. 13, Judge Jesse Furman of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York appointed Elizabeth Thompson from National Union’s slate of candidates, ruling that she meets the qualifications set forth in the parties’ arbitration agreement.
