LOS ANGELES –– A California man has filed a complaint against Monsanto Co. in federal court, contending that its herbicide product Roundup was supposed to be as safe as table salt, but instead caused him to develop cancer.

Plaintiff Peter Johansing filed the July 8 complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, contending that after tending to his family ranch with “great care” for more than 40 years with Roundup, he developed non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
