NEW YORK — A New York federal magistrate judge has denied Safebuilt Insurance Services’ motion to compel a non-party to produce certain documents in an action accusing Safebuilt of mismanaging its captive insurers, ruling that Safebuilt failed to show why its requests for the information is proportionate to the needs of the case.

On July 1, Judge James Cott of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York further explained that the requested documents are not encompassed in his earlier order directing Safebuilt to produce all documents relating to AmTrust North America Inc.’s due-diligence efforts.
