Talc Plaintiff: $72 Million Award Justified by Defendants’ Knowledge of Talc Risks for Decades without Action

ST. LOUIS –– A jury’s decision to award $72 million to the representative of a woman who allegedly developed ovarian cancer as a result of exposure to talc-based powder products was “well within Constitutional bounds,” according to a plaintiff’s recent opposition brief.

In the brief, filed May 10 in the Missouri Circuit Court for the 22nd Judicial Circuit for St. Louis City, the plaintiff said that the defendants’ request for a remittitur of both compensatory and punitive damages should be denied since there was evidence that the companies knew for decades that talc was causing ovarian cancer.
