Pa. State Court Grants Motion to Mold $824,000 Jury Verdict Entered Against U.S. Steel in Benzene Case

PHILADELPHIA –– A Pennsylvania state court has granted U.S. Steel Corp.’s motion to mold a $824,000 jury verdict entered in a benzene case, reducing the damages to $424,000 after accounting for payments made by insurers toward the plaintiff’s medical expenses.

In the March 8 order, the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas for Philadelphia County reduced the $400,000 award for past medical expenses to nothing, noting that collateral source payments totaled nearly $900,000.
