Utah Passes Asbestos Bankruptcy Transparency Legislation

SALT LAKE CITY –– The governor of Utah has signed a bill aimed at eliminating allegedly fraudulent claims filed with asbestos bankruptcy trusts, becoming the latest state to enact such legislation.

H.B. 403, the “Asbestos Litigation Transparency Act,” was introduced to the Utah House on Feb. 22. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Brad R. Wilson; the floor sponsor was Sen. J. Stuart Adams.

Governor Gary Herbert signed the legislation on March 29.

The legislation passed the House on March 7 by a vote of 69-6. The state Senate followed suit one day later, passing the bill by a vote …
