California Federal Judge Severs, Transfers Roundup Cancer Claims

LOS ANGELES — A federal judge has severed and transferred the claims of two plaintiffs who alleged that they developed cancer after years of exposure to Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide.

In a March 24 order granting motions filed by Monsanto, Judge Dolly M. Gee of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California ruled that significant differences in the circumstances surrounding each plaintiff’s alleged exposure outweigh any efficiency that may result from trying the cases together. Judge Gee also ordered that the cases be transferred to federal courts in Texas and the Eastern District of California.
