Ill. Court Grants Motion to Dismiss for Lack of Personal Jurisdiction in Asbestos Case

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. –– An Illinois court has granted a motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction with leave to re-file in the proper forum, ruling that the fact that The William Powell Co.’s valves and gaskets were found in the state does not automatically confer jurisdiction.

In the March 23 order, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois further found that only state law claims remained and, as such, remanded the case for further proceedings in the Circuit Court of St. Clair County.
