GALVESTON, Texas - One of the first cases to allege lung cancer as a result of exposure to silica dust has been settled before going to trial in a Texas district court. Mantooth v. Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co., No. 01-CV-0585 (Texas Dist. Ct., Galveston Cty.)

According to sources, parties recently settled allegations that Troy Mantooth, a former sandblaster and painter, developed silicosis, and eventually lung cancer, as a result of his occupational exposure to silica dust.
