FDA Submits Requests to Three Drug Manufacturers
for the Removal of Misleading Advertisements

WASHINGTON-The FDA's Division of Drug Marketing and Communications issued warning letters to three pharmaceutical companies requesting the withdrawal of promotional materials that were in violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA).

The recipients of the warning letters included Pfizer, Inc., in New York, TAP Pharmaceutical Products, Inc., in Lake Forest, Ill., and Elan Pharmaceuticals in San Francisco.

The letter sent to Pfizer addressed the direct-to-consumer (DTC) print ad for the lipid-lowering drug Lipitor, which suggests that the drug is safer than other …
