$19.8 Million Awarded to Baltimore Shipyard Workers

BALTIMORE - Three Baltimore shipyard workers have been awarded nearly $20 million for their workplace exposure to asbestos and the mesothelioma that resulted. Harlow v. Hopeman Brothers, No. 99-001607 (Md. Cir. Ct., Baltimore Cty.).

The Baltimore City Circuit Court jury issued its verdict March 20, finding that carpentry firm Hopeman Brothers had been negligent in its procedures for cutting panels aboard the ships where the three men worked.

Robert Harlowe, the only plaintiff still living, was awarded $7,071,832 for his exposure. Harlowe worked for a vending machine company that served the Curtis Bay Shipyard.
