Illinois Appellate Court Affirms Stay of Action Pending Arbitration

CHICAGO - Overlapping issues and discovery complications warrant stay of a declaratory action filed by certain reinsurers of Boeing Co.'s captive insurer pending conclusion of a related international arbitration, an Illinois appellate court has affirmed. Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's v. The Boeing Co., et al., No. 1-07-1667 (Ill. App., 3rd Div.)

In a June 30 opinion, the Illinois Court of Appeal, Third Division, ruled that Boeing would be unduly prejudiced if the action were allowed to proceed because the reinsurers might gain access to documents that were restricted in the underlying arbitration.
