Judge Tosses Complaint Against Administrators; Grants Leave To Amend

CHICAGO - An Illinois federal judge has dismissed Swiss Reinsurance America Corp.'s lawsuit against a group of reinsurance administrators, finding that the complaint improperly "lumped together" three separate entities. Swiss Reinsurance America Corp. v. Access General Agency of California, No. 07 C 3954 (N.D. Ill.).

Swiss Re accused the defendants of mishandling claims in connection with two reinsurance programs.

In an Aug. 1 order, U.S. District Judge Elaine E. Bucklo agreed with the defendants that the allegations do not support piercing of the corporate veil. However, the judge granted the plaintiffs leave to file a second amended complaint.
