Federal Judge Denies Glaxo's Motion to Seal Drug Approval Docs

HAMMOND, Ind. - An Indiana federal judge on June 25 denied GlaxoSmithKline's motion to seal certain documents in a Paxil wrongful death action, finding they do not contain trade secrets or other competitively sensitive information. Cunningham v. GlaxoSmithKline, No. 2:07-cv-174 (N.D. Ind.).

Fourteen-year-old Scott Cunningham died of suicide in March 2001, six weeks after he was allegedly prescribed Paxil for depression. In 2005, GlaxoSmithKline included a disclaimer with Paxil warning that the drug 'increased the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior' in some adolescent users of the drug.

Cunningham's family sued GlaxoSmithKline in 2006, alleging that as early as 1994, …
