California Jury Reaches Defense Verdict in Case Involving CalPortland’s Plastic Cement

LOS ANGELES –– A California jury has reached a defense verdict for lone remaining defendant CalPortland Co., ruling that the defendant’s plastic cement product was not a substantial factor in causing a former painter’s mesothelioma.
The California Superior Court for Los Angeles County jury reached the verdict on Nov. 30 after a trial presided over by Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis.
The plaintiffs asserted the claims on behalf of Salvador Orona Sr., who was allegedly exposed to a number of asbestos-containing drywall joint compounds and plaster patching materials while working as a painter in the 1960s and 1970s. The plaintiffs specifically …
