Monsanto Opposes Creation of Roundup MDL, Says Creation of MDL Docket Would Slow ‘Rapid Progression’ of Cases

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Monsanto Co. has opposed recent efforts to create a multidistrict litigation docket to handle the growing number of claims asserted against the company for its herbicide Roundup, arguing that it is voluntarily sharing completed discovery with other plaintiffs.
In the Aug. 18 opposition brief, Monsanto told the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation that once general causation discovery is complete, “much of the remaining discovery will be case-specific and focused on the many individual issues inherent in product liability litigation, as well as some that are unique given plaintiffs’ allegations here.”
