Pa. Court Weighs in on Motions in Asbestos Insurance Coverage Dispute in Anticipation for July Trial

PHILADELPHIA –– A Pennsylvania court has weighed in on a number of motions asserted in an asbestos insurance coverage dispute, deferring a ruling on one of the issues until after the close of evidence in the upcoming trial.

In three separate June 12 orders, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania addressed motions brought by General Refractories Co. and its insurer, Travelers Casualty and Surety Co.

A manufacturer of asbestos-containing refractory products, General Refractories filed the declaratory action, in which it argued that its insurance carriers owed them excess insurance coverage for underlying asbestos-related lawsuits.
