N.J. Federal Court Dismisses Superstorm Sandy Claims Against State Farm, Colonial; Reinstates FEMA as Defendant

CAMDEN, N.J. –– A New Jersey federal court has dismissed a Superstorm Sandy coverage action against State Farm Insurance Co. and Colonial Claims Corp., ruling in part that the plaintiffs were mistaken as to the nature of their flood insurance policy, which was in fact issued by FEMA.

In the March 12 order, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey further found that the homeowner-related claims asserted against State Farm were untimely.
