Travelers Sues 19 Reinsurers for Breach of Contract in Conn. Federal Court

HARTFORD, Conn. — Travelers Indemnity Co. has sued 19 reinsurers in Connecticut federal court, alleging that they breached two facultative certificates by refusing to pay Travelers’ reinsurance billings for its settlement of underlying environmental claims.

In a Nov. 10 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, Travelers demanded varying sums from the reinsurers, who allegedly participated in the Excess and Casualty Reinsurance Association (ECRA) pool.
