INDIANAPOLIS — As many as 600 employees of Exel Inc. may have been exposed to toxic levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at a warehouse owned by Wal-Mart, a lawsuit filed recently in Indiana alleges.

The class action complaint, filed Sept. 19 in Marion County Superior Court, accuses six Wal-Mart entities of negligently breaching its duty to provide a safe work environment for Exel employees working at the Indianapolis facility.

According to the lawsuit, the workers received an Aug. 25 memorandum indicating that Wal-Mart was aware of the specific presence of a contaminant at the warehouse, prompting Excel to immediately suspend …
