Insurers Must Pay Temporary Housing Expenses to Woman Who Sued Them for Coverage of Superstorm Sandy Damage, N.Y. Judge Rules

MINEOLA, N.Y. — A New York judge has ordered insurers to continue paying advanced relocation expenses to a woman who is living in temporary housing while she remains locked in a dispute over coverage of her Superstorm Sandy-damaged home.

In a June 30 order granting a motion for injunctive relief, Nassau Supreme Court Justice Antonio I. Brandveen ruled that there exists a legitimate interest in “preserving the status quo” based on the plaintiff’s likelihood of success on the merits of her coverage dispute and the risk of harm that might result from a change in her current living arrangement.
