Hawaii Court Awards Summary Judgment in Asbestos Case Involving 3rd-Party Replacement Parts; Allows Some Claims to Proceed

HONOLULU –– A Hawaii federal court has issued a 61-page opinion in which it addresses several motions for summary judgment in an asbestos case, allowing a number of claims to proceed in the maritime case.

In the Nov. 26 opinion, the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii held that some of the defendants could not be held liable for replacement products they did not manufacture or supply.

In the opinion, Cleaver-Brooks’ motion for summary judgment was denied in full, while a similar motion asserted by Ametek was granted in full. Motions brought by Aurora Pump and Crane …
