Calif. Jury Awards $730,000 to Former Boilermaker, Ship Surveyor; Holds Asbestos Defendant Plant Insulation Co. 5 Percent Liable

SAN FRANCISCO –– A California jury has awarded $730,000 to a former boilermaker and ship surveyor who allegedly developed mesothelioma after he was exposed to asbestos-containing thermal insulation.

The California Superior Court for San Francisco County jury reached the verdict on Nov. 14 after an eight-week trial and two days of deliberations. Judge Teri L. Jackson presided over the trial.

The jury awarded $480,000 in economic damages –– including $50,000 in past medical costs, $30,000 in future medical costs, $400,000 in non-medical economic damages –– and $250,000 in non-economic damages. RPI Company, f/k/a Plant Insulation Company, was assessed five percent …
