ABG II Hip Stem Recipient First to Sue Howmedica/Stryker in Federal Court

BOSTON — A Massachusetts hip implant recipient has filed what is believed to be the first federal court action alleging defects in a Stryker Orthopaedics (NYSE: SYK) ABG II modular hip stem device.

Plaintiff Lisa Lincoln filed her action against Howmedica Osteonics Corp. (d/b/a Stryker Orthopaedics) March 26 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

The filing comes just days after Howmedica submitted a brief to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation arguing that litigation arising from implantation of the ABG II device should not be included with Rejuvenate hip system cases in a multidistrict proceeding …
