$5.5 Million Verdict Issued in C.R. Bard Pelvic Mesh Case

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A California jury has handed down a $5.5 million verdict against C.R. Bard Inc. in the first transvaginal mesh case to go to trial, finding that the company’s negligence caused a woman’s injuries, including incontinence and chronic pain. Scott v. Kannappan (No. S-1500-CV-266034, Calif. Super. Ct., Bard Cty.).

On July 23, a Bard County Superior Court jury found Christine Scott’s injuries were caused by Bard’s negligent handling of its Avaulta Plus vaginal mesh implant. The jury assigned 60 percent fault to Bard and 40 percent fault to Scott’s surgeon.
